Roofing Supervisor

SALARY RANGE:

Starting hourly is $28.00 to $35.00 per hour depending on experience, driver license required.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The purpose of this job description is to establish and define the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities, duties, and measures of performance for the Roofing Supervisor position at Ainger Group.

The basic functions of the Ainger Group Roofing Supervisor are to:
  1. Train subordinates to perform their duties to Ainger Group standards.
  2. Oversee the quality and timeliness of workmanship and the methods in which they are produced.
  3. Report daily and weekly as needed to the Roofing General Manager on the targets agreed upon.
  4. Follow all Ainger Group safety requirements.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  1. The Roofing Supervisor is selected by and reports to the Roofing General Manager.
  2. The Roofing Supervisor reports both to the staff beneath them, and to the Roofing General Manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) – Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful.

Experience: Minimum 5 Years’ Experience.  Must have shingling and Metal roof experience.

Availability: Must be available Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (throughout the spring, summer, and fall season) and weekends on an as needed basis.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  1. Safety in the workplace;
  2. Knowledge of the proper use of the equipment being used;
  3. Ability to direct staff and ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner;
  4. Ability to work under pressure;
  5. Problem-solving skills;
  6. Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing, and blueprint reading essentially;
  7. Able to make educated planning decisions to foresee and avoid potential problems;
  8. Demonstrates pride in workmanship
  9. Able to communicate effectively and keep communication constant;
  10. Must have shingling experience and be on the roof ripping/shingling with the crew.
  11. Must have a valid Driver’s License with a clean driver’s history;
  12. Must be able to work in inclement weather.
AUTHORITY

The Roofing Supervisor is selected and appointed by the Roofing General Manager and is delegated sufficient authority, including the following areas, to successfully complete the duties and responsibilities that are assigned to the position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Responsible for making sure that all staff work in a SAFE and respectable manner at all times;
  2. Responsible for maintaining the high standards of appearance and workmanship on each site that is specified to the contract;
  3. Responsible for meeting expected timeframes that work is be completed in;
  4. Responsible for inspecting roofs to determine the best procedures for repairing them;
  5. Responsible for the checking of the roofing materials and ensuring they are delivered to site;
  6. Responsible for having everything that is required for the day prepared to start working prior to other staff’s arrival and to advise the Roofing General Manager of any foreseeable materials that will be required (e.g. Fuel, tools and roofing supplies, etc.);
  7. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workspace and appearance at all times;
  8. Responsible for having all Inspections completed in full and handed in on the days required;
  9. Responsible for training and for mentoring other staff to help them in their development of skills and abilities;
  10. Expected to have a constant flow of communication with the Roofing General Manager regarding the day’s progress, problems being faced plans being changed, or staffing issues;
  11. Responsible for setting appropriate times for rest periods and breaks to be taken to coincide with maintaining maximum productivity on any given day;
  12. Responsible for reporting concerns, or suggest changes regarding staffing or scheduling to optimize performance and productivity;
  13. Responsible for advising when maintenance to machines, trucks or equipment is required to the Roofing General Manager;
  14. Responsible for informing the Roofing General Manager of any misuse or damages to any company-owned equipment or damage done by our staff or others observed on sites;
  15. Responsible for upholding and enforcing the rules and practices set forth in the company employee Policy and Procedure Manual and the company Health and Safety Manual. Report those unwilling to cooperate;
  16. Represent the company in a professional manner at all times;
  17. Ask questions if you are unsure; and perform any other duties and tasks as may be directed by the Roofing General Manager.
Language Skills:
  1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written in the English language;
  2. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; and
  3. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of Ainger Group.
Mathematical Skills:
  1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure; and
  2. Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Cognitive and Reasoning Ability:
  1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; and
  2. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Stamina and Strength: Roofing Supervisors must have the endurance to perform strenuous duties as they spend hours standing on their feet, kneeling, crouching or crawling, bending and stooping – often in hot temperatures – with few breaks. Roofer Supervisor often lift and carry heavy materials that weigh 60 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and depth perception.

Balance: Roofing is often done on steep slopes at significant heights, because of this; workers must have excellent balance to avoid falling with the use of fall safety equipment at all times on the roof.

Unafraid of heights: Roofing Supervisors work at significant heights and must not fear to work far above the ground.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristic described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, hot and cold weather and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions throughout the year. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE

The Roofing Supervisor at Ainger Group shall be deemed to be performing their duties in an acceptable manner when the following objectives have been accomplished:

  1. Ensure that staff are working in a safe manner with fall safety gear to avoid injuries;
  2. Properties appearance meets or exceeds the standards set forth in the contract without a call back or complaints;
  3. Staff hours meet or exceed allotted budgets and individually without compromising the quality of work;
  4. Un-billable / wasted hours are consistently kept to an absolute minimum;
  5. Equipment is kept serviced and maintained in operational condition’
  6. The Roofing General Manager is kept informed and in the loop; and the rules and procedures are being followed by all staff under them
