SALARY RANGE:
Starting salary for a Roofer Labourer is $18.00 – $21.00 per hour. Roofer Labourers who possess applicable licenses and skills can advance to a roofing position for increased wage potential.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The purpose of this operating procedure is to establish and define the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities, duties, and measures of performance for a Roofer Labourer position at Ainger Group.
The basic functions of the Ainger Group Roofer are to:
- The Roofer Labourer is selected by and reports to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
- Be respectful of other co-workers and authority of supervisory staff.
- To produce a quality job in a timely fashion as allotted by the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- The Roofer is selected by and reports to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
- The Roofer Labourer reports to the team in place at any given time for the work that is completed and to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) – Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful.
Experience: Ideally 1 or more Years Experience
Availability: Must be available Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons) and weekends on an as needed basis
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must be willing to work safely in the workplace;
- Knowledge of the proper use of equipment being used;
- Able to take direction to get specified work done in a timely manner with little supervision;
- Ably to work under pressure;
- Problem solving and the ability to adapt to changing situations and schedules;
- Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful;
- Demonstrate pride in workmanship and take responsibility for work completed;
- Able to work in inclement weather;

AUTHORITY
The Roofer Labourers are selected and appointed by the Roofing Manager and are delegated sufficient authority, including the following areas, to successfully complete the duties and responsibilities that are assigned to this position:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for making sure that they work in a safe and respectable manner at all times including the mandatory use of their Fall Arrest Safety Gear and PPE (Safety Footwear, Eye Protection, Ear Protection, Skin Protection);
- Responsible for maintaining the high standards of appearance and workmanship on each site that is specified in the contract;
- Responsible for unrolling material and ensuring that the correct quantity and type of materials has been delivered to the site;
- Responsible for ensuring that the material is delivered to the roof using ladders;
- Responsible for clearing debris and other unused materials from the roof prior to beginning a project;
- Responsible for the tear down of old roofing before the beginning of a roofing project;
- Responsible laying materials for roofing and ensuring that all roofers are equipped with safety equipment;
- Responsible assisting in nailing roofing paper and shingles into roofs;
- Responsible for removing and discarding old roofing materials;
- Responsible for ensuring preventative and general maintenance on equipment used for roofing purposes;
- Responsible for completing work within the specified timeframe;
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workspace and appearance at all times;
- Must have all inspections fully completed daily and ready for the supervisor to hand in on the required days;
- Expected to have a constant flow of communication with the Roofing Manager/Supervisor regarding any problems, plans being changed, or problems with other staff;
- Responsible for reporting any safety concerns to their supervisor immediately;
- Responsible for advising when maintenance to machines, or breakdowns occur;
- Responsible for informing the Roofing Manager/Supervisor of any misuse or damages to any company owned equipment, or damage done or observed on sites;
- Responsible for following the rules and practices set forth in the Policy and Procedure Manual. Report those unwilling to do the same.
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times;
- Ask Questions for advice or about things they do not know; and
- Perform any other duties and tasks as may be directed by the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written in the English language;
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; and
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of Ainger Group.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; and
- Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume and distance.
Cognitive and Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; and
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Stamina and Strength: Roofer Labourers must have endurance to perform strenuous duties as they spend hours standing on their feet, kneeling, crouching or crawling, bending and stooping – often in hot temperatures – with few breaks. Roofer Labourers often lift and carry heavy materials that weigh 60 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and depth perception.
Balance: Roofer Labourers work at significant heights and must not fear working far above ground.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristic described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, hot and cold weather and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions throughout the year. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
- A Roofer Labourer at Ainger Group shall be deemed to be performing their duties in an acceptable manner when the following objectives have been accomplished:
- Everyone is working in a Safe manor without injury;
- The work that is completed day to day meets or exceeds the standards set forth by the supervisor and is best practice for the industry;
- Un-billable hours are consistently kept to an absolute minimum; The Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor is kept informed of any supplies and/or equipment needed for the following days progress; and
- The rules and procedures are being followed.
